  • Location: Te Awanga, New Zealand

Have your own personal encounter with the birds and personal guide  - A maximum of 4 people and 3 hours duration.

Your tour takes you overland to the largest accessible gannet colony in the world through Cape Kidnappers Station which is approximately 2,500 hectares and has a fascinating history. In addition to sheep and beef farming, the station today has a 200 hectare native bush conservatory hosting introduced Kiwi and Tuatara with a predator proof fence running from coast to coast.  There is a luxury lodge with a privately owned world class golf course.

Stop on top of the cliff tops and look down at the remarkable geology of the cliffs and sweeping views across Hawkes Bay.

When at the colony, you'll be memorised by the spectacular birds with their eye markings and golden crowns.

Be within just a few feet of adults and chicks nesting, preening themselves and performing their courtship dance.

As of 3 December 2021, New Zealand moves into the COVID-19 Protection Framework, (traffic light system) and our businesses will be adopting the new framework to ensure our tour can operate as freely as possible while keeping our staff and visitors safe.  We can safely operate at all levels in the new system with special requirements.

From 3 December 2021 and transitioning until 15th December 2021 visitors to our businesses will need to:

  • Be double vaccinated and show their government My Vaccine Pass on arrival (for those aged 12 years 3 months and over)
  • Scan in using the NZ COVID Tracer App
  • Wear a mask while on the bus and while out of the bus maintain a 2 meter distance between people not in your bubble.
  • No pass – No tour

All of the staff at Gannet Safaris Overland are 100% double vaccinated.

All our buses are sanitised between tours.  We have sanitiser and masks available for public use.

We are looking forward to a busy and safe summer season, and look forward to sharing or experience with you all.

Gannet Safaris Overland team.
